Trends in Establishment Survey Nonresponse Rates and Nonresponse Bias: Evidence from the 2001-2017 IAB Establishment Panel

چکیده
Abstract Evidence from the household survey literature shows a declining response rate trend in recent decades, but whether similar exists for voluntary establishment surveys is an understudied issue. This article examines trends nonresponse rates and bias over period of 17 years annual cross-sectional refreshment samples IAB Establishment Panel Germany. In addition, rich administrative data about employee composition are used to examine changes its two main components, refusal noncontact, time. Our findings show that dropped by nearly third: 50.2% 2001 34.5% 2017. Simultaneously, increased this period, which was mainly driven increasing whereas noncontact fluctuated relatively evenly same period. Nonresponse biases individual characteristics did not distinct pattern time with few exceptions. Notably, larger establishments participated less frequently than smaller entire implies organizations may need put more effort into recruiting counteract bias.

Nonresponse Rates and Nonresponse Bias In Household Surveys
Many surveys of the U.S. household population are experiencing higher refusal rates. Nonresponse can, but need not, induce nonresponse bias in survey estimates. Recent empirical findings illustrate cases when the linkage between nonresponse rates and nonresponse biases is absent. Despite this, professional standards continue to urge high response rates. Statistical expressions of nonresponse bi...
متن کاملNonresponse prediction in an establishment survey using combination of statistical learning methods
Nonrespose is a source of error in the survey results and national statistical organizations are always looking for ways to control and reduce it. Predicting nonrespons sampling units in the survey before conducting the survey is one of the solutions that can help a lot in reducing and treating the survey nonresponse. Recent advances in technology and the facilitation of complex calculations...
متن کاملSurvey Participation, Nonresponse Bias, Measurement Error Bias, and Total Bias
A common hypothesis about practices to reduce survey nonresponse is that those persons brought into the respondent pool through persuasive efforts may provide data filled with measurement error. Two questions flow from this hypothesis. First, does the mean square error of a statistic increase when sample persons who are less likely to be contacted or cooperate are incorporated into the responde...

in many statistical systems, a type of survey called “sampling over time” is common, which repeats continuously over time. one method of sampling over time is panel survey. panel survey is a method in which a “fixed sample” is contacted during different waves. the most important challenge in a panel survey is debility in providing response from some sample units and having non-response that usu...
متن کاملThe Impact of Nonresponse Rates on Nonresponse Bias a Meta-analysis
Fifty-nine methodological studies were designed to estimate the magnitude of nonresponse bias in statistics of interest. These studies use a variety of designs: sampling frames with rich variables, data from administrative records matched to sample case, use of screeninginterview data to describe nonrespondents to main interviews, followup of nonrespondents to initial phases of field effort, an...
